Volume containing handwritten extracts (1671-1721) from fragmentary journals containing the minutes of the South Carolina Grand Council and from a book concerning Indian affairs (1710-1718) copied by William James Rivers (also includes Rivers' notes). Extracts of minutes from Council meetings (pages 3-16, pages 1 and 2 are missing) contain references to the relationship between colonists and the Indians, with various groups being mentioned by name. Extracts from a "book of Indian affairs, 1710-1718" [journal (proceedings) of the board of trade commissioners, who issued licenses, bonds, and instructions to Indian Agents and traders] (p. 18-143) contains references to Indian groups, particularly regarding trade. In the back of the volume Rivers notes that he visited J.S. Green in Columbia and received additional information in 1851. Notes from this meeting include additional citations and information concerning Native Americans.
